New Patient Center
Arriving at a chiropractic office for the first time can feel like a lot. Here is exactly what happens, so nothing about your first visit is a surprise.
Welcome
We understand that a first visit to a chiropractor can be nerve racking. If you have never experienced chiropractic care before, you may not know what to expect. New paperwork, new faces, and finding your way around an unfamiliar office adds up quickly.
Our aim at Swain Family Chiropractic is to remove that unnecessary stress. You can take care of everything you need before you arrive, from the comfort of your own home, and our staff will support you through every step once you get here. If you have questions at any point, call us at (843) 900-7006.
Your First Visits
Patient Forms
Once your first appointment is scheduled, we will ask you to fill out our online patient intake form. This gives us your health history and details about your condition, which helps us determine the most appropriate care for you.
Consultation
Your first visit starts with a consultation with Dr. Ron. We discuss your health concerns, your condition, and what you are hoping to get out of care, so we can understand how chiropractic care fits your goals.
Examination
Next comes a complete chiropractic examination, including our 6-step wellness evaluation. This assesses key neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical areas to identify problems that may be affecting your health. Nothing happens in our office without your consent.
X-Ray Studies
Depending on your condition, we may take spinal X-rays. These detailed images let us evaluate the state of your spine, flag any serious conditions, and build the most effective care plan. Most patients are surprised by what they can see themselves once the images are up.
Report of Findings
We schedule a second visit to walk you through everything we found. We review your health history, your goals, and your X-rays, then answer your questions, including how we can help, how often you need to come in, and what your care will cost. We also discuss our recommendations for your care plan, and we will tell you if your condition calls for care from another provider.
Treatment
At the end of that second appointment, you can choose to receive your first treatment. Depending on your plan and your preferences, that may include spinal adjustments, physical therapy, or soft tissue massage. Treatment is interactive, so you can raise concerns about any technique at any time.
Wellness Program
Throughout your care we suggest techniques you can use at home, including ice or heat instructions, positions and activities to avoid, exercises and stretches, and healthy routines that fit your lifestyle. You will also have access to our member health and wellness library, with exercise videos, newsletters, and other resources.
The Three Phases of Care
Chiropractic care works a bit like building a house. Certain things have to happen in a particular order for everything to hold. Build the walls before the foundation is solid and those walls will eventually fail. Your body works the same way. If something is wrong with the foundation, that has to be addressed before real health is possible.
Phase 1
Relief Care
If you arrive in pain, our first objective is reducing that pain and getting you feeling better as soon as possible. Depending on the severity of the underlying condition, this typically means adjustments two to three times per week for four to twelve weeks.
Phase 2
Corrective Care
In this phase, muscles and other tissues are given the chance to heal more completely, which helps prevent the injury or pain from returning. The goal is bringing your body back to full function. This usually means adjustments four to eight times per month for six to twenty-four months, depending on your overall health and the severity of the problem.
Phase 3
Wellness Care
Once you have healed and the pain is gone, periodic adjustments help keep problems from developing again. This phase generally requires a quick visit one to four times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals.
